Who started the Map of Hope?

The Map of Hope is a passion project of three friends: Joe Kim, Joanna Hernandez, and Mike Del Ponte. Knowing the uncertainty and fear people are feeling right now, they wanted to build something to give people hope and community. United by their love of prayer, they combined their design, administrative, and entrepreneurial skills to create the Map of Hope. Many friends have helped, including XenoPsi, which built this site.

Where did the idea for the Map of Hope come from?

Like many people, we looked at maps tracking all the coronavirus cases every day (and sometimes multiple times a day!). These maps kept getting worse. More and more red dots appeared, showing how the pandemic - and fear - was taking over the world. So we asked ourselves, "What if we could create something that gives people hope?"

It would be simple. It would track something inspiring. Something that gets better and better every day. A movement of people around the globe. Immediately, we thought, "It should be the rosary!"

From these simple insights, the Map of Hope was born.

Where did the idea for Map of Hope come from?

After constantly looking at maps tracking the COVID-19 pandemic - which get worse and worse everyday - we asked ourselves, "What if we could create something that gives people hope?"

We wanted to track something inspiring. Something that gets better every day. A movement of people around the globe praying for one another. From these simple insights, the Map of Hope was born.

Why focus on the rosary?

Throughout history, people have turned to the rosary for peace, hope, and solidarity. It’s a substantial prayer that takes time. It combines intentions for the world with verbal and meditative prayer. It’s something you can do anywhere, alone or in community. And many miracles have been attributed to the rosary, including the end of a 15-century plague in Italy.

What if I don’t know how to pray the rosary?

We recommend this video, which is a short step-by-step lesson on how to pray the rosary. It can take time to get into the groove with the rosary. That is natural. Try it a few time knowing that you are joining millions of people around the globe in saying this beautiful ancient prayer.

What if the rosary is not part of my faith tradition.

We are happy you are here! Everyone is welcome at the Map of Hope. If you prefer to pray another prayer, that is respected and appreciated. Feel free to share your prayer intentions and join the global movement of hope.
